- Historical Note: This joint reunion of Union and Confederate veterans of the Battle of Chickamauga, at Crawfish Springs, Georgia, on September 20, 1889, set a precedent that ultimately resulted in the formation of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Led by a committee of experts from both North and South, the Chickamauga project became a model for battlefield reconstruction. Over 50,000 visitors attended the dedication of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in 1895.
