Description: :White on white square cotton coverlet with tufted designs.
Historical Note: This carefully stitched coverlet was made from unbleached cotton. It is said to have been crafted by one or more slaves, perhaps working as visiting seamstresses. This coverlet descended in the family of Mrs. William Winfree, the great great grandmother of William Williams Dupree. Perhaps future research or a family bible can turn up the names of the artisans who crafted it. The pattern alternates star and floral shapes with geometric cones and curves forming surrounding motifs.
