  • Historical Note: Major Nathaniel Francis Cheairs (1818-1914), married Spring Hill, Tennessee, neighbor Susan Peters McKissack in 1841. They lived at Rippa Villa, a brick home built from local McKissack bricks. According to the records of Maury County's Rose Hill Cemetery, Cheairs enlisted with the Third Tennessee Infantry and served as a field officer with the Bigby Grays. He survived the war and returned to run his large plantation.
