  • Historical Note: Identified in this photograph, seated left to right in the front row are: George H. Patten, H.S. Chamberlain, Xenophon Wheeler, and John T. Wilder. Chamberlain and Wilder were principals in the Roane Iron Company, which became enormously profitable under their management. Wheeler and Wilder, who had served as Union officers, settled in Chattanooga after the Civil War, as did Patten's brother, Zeboim, founder of Chattanooga Patent Medicine.
